Albus is a shadow/void caster. Gavin is a sapient canine from a race bred by the knomshi during the Ventari period. They fell in together during a strange series of adventures after Albus crash landed on Irallon. Gavin is older and tends to look after Albus. This is necessitated by Albus being the trope codifier for a cloistered scholar.
